Mayflies (pictured above) spend 2 yrs underwater as larvae.
ONLY when they've gone through their first metamorphosis to come out of the water, survive the fish that eat them once they get out of the water, THEN the predatory birds, and manage to fly to the edge of the pond and find a good branch, they get to go through metamorphosis for the final time... :D Yay! Go Mayflies!
But... hey, Creationists, are you listening to this?
They DON'T have a mouth or stomach- which obviously means they can NOT eat or digest ANYTHING. So they can fly for about 30 minutes using their fat reserves (if they have any!).... and FIRST have to find a mate within those 30 minutes... THEN fight off all the males that also want her, AND get "at it" without drowning.
Now, I don't know what your definition of "intelligent" is.... but..... that isn't "ingelligent" to me!
Seriously, God, why didn't you give those poor mayflies a mouth? Would have been a lot more intelligent AND would give them more time to enjoy life 'outta da watah', don't you think?
PS- This reminds me a bit of The Little Mermaid in a strange, morbid The-REAL-Hans-Christian-An
Water -> metamorphosis (gets legs) -> land -> time limit to find Prince -> no voice (mouth) -> must die if can not kiss Prince! Wait... are mermaids mayflies of the sea?! NO!!!!
